In Response To: Chilton's Mill & Clan ()

Terry,
If you give me the OR reference I will look this up. There were lots of Chiltons out there and many are associated with the Chilton area on the lower Current, where there was a definite mill. I don't know of a Chilton Mill on the Jacks Fork but would like to know its approximate location. There is also a Chilton homestead near Owls Bend.
There were a couple of mills close to the Jacks Fork on Shawnee and Little Shawnee Creek.

In general, mills did not do so well on rivers such as the Jacks Fork or Current. Floods tended to remove them at the earliest opportunity. More were located on smaller streams or at springs such as Alley (formerly Barksdale).
