Enterprise
In Response To: Re: Champion Hill ()

Absolutely incredible letter.

To increase the size of the haystack, one of the main roads into Enterprise at that time came from Paulding, Jasper County, to the southwest of Enterprise. Paulding was a thriving town, the "Queen City of the East," but is now practically a ghost town. A possible route from Jackson to Enterprise could have paralleled modern(?) Highway 80, but would have had to turn south toward Enterprise, probably from Hickory or Chunky, for reasons unknown. Just as likely, a route east would have gone from the Jackson area through Raleigh and Paulding, then Enterprise. It might be a good idea to check cemeteries on that route. Also, if the caretaker was a Baptist minister, just maybe he sought a burial place at a Baptist church.

Good luck!
