William Eggleston again. My mother's great uncle, George Washington Speer, transferred from B/1 S.C Rifles (Orr's) to Company A of the Legion on 14 Nov 64, just about the time that Eggleston did; he is shown as present on the same Nov-Dec 64 roll. Speer was home on furlough to mount at the time of the surrender, but he and Eggleston served together at least for a while, in the same company. My father's side of the family, for the most part, were in Company B of the Legion.
