Unfortunately, I could locate my file on John R. Eggleston today. I will continue to search.

As the genealogical link provided by Mr. Sanders indicates, Eggleston and his wife, Sarah Dabney, had no children. The Dabneys were a very prominent family in the Raymond area.

There is a subject file on John R. Eggleston in the Mississippi Department of Archives and History from which I got most of my information, including the obituary, which was printed in a Nashville newspaper. I will check it out next time I go to the Archives, which is not often because I am sort of persona non grata for daring to gripe about their absurd policies, lackadaisical help (except for GRADY HOWELL), and Byzantine catalog.

I would be tempted to think that there was a connection between John Eggleston and "your" Egglestons for the reasons that they shared a not-so-common name, were all from Holmes County, were obviously concerned with higher education (University of MS and Annapolis), and all served in the war. Of course, assumptions are the mother.......
