I don't disagree with any of this since what you posted is close to the only history I've seen on the subject. There is no proof he was a mole which implies he was a part of an organized spy organization before he entered office nor is there any history of him being on officially indicted for teason before he joined the Confederate army sometime after May of 1865.
His actions at Fort Donelson goes against the 'mole' theory because in effect he surrendered General Grant that fort and the men inside under questionable circumstances making an nice easy gift for the North.
ALL Confederate officers and officials were threatened with treason charges at one time or another. In fact them made a special ammendment to the Constitution just for them.
