The reason I broke my silence and posted on the current thread is because of the assertion posted by others that a Southerner who wore the uniform of the United States Army was something to be ashamed of.

It becomes a shame when said Southerner DESERTS his country, that country being the Confederate States of America, and joins the north, which became the Union States of America upon claiming our legal RIGHT to secede. The northern states inability to recognize this secession did not diminish our right to become a Country.
