Re: Stowing the P1853 Enfield "Tool"

I think what Art was getting at was it was not practical in combat to have to dig around your haversack when you needed to fix you weapon. I'm not saying your wrong at all, I don't know what they carried exactly at all times and how. I just read a letter where a soldier said he carried all his spare cloths in his haversack. I sure would like to know.
