In other words, the Brits didn't know where the soldier was supposed to put it either! Unless he had a cartridge box it would fit in - mine's the post '60 version. As we've discussed, don't think a soldier would be much interested in carrying the sharp thing in his pocket, so it was probably "catch as catch can" as we'd surmised. Thanks for finding that!
