OK. Here's an intersting note on this subject.

The Roster of the Confederate Soldiers of Georgia, 1861-1865, Vol. 2, page 389 records: "Yopp, Bill (colored) - Drummer July 9, 1861. Surrendered, Appomattox, Va. Apr. 9, 1865"

His owner, Thomas M. Yopp, was a 1st Lieutenant in the company Bill Yopp served in: Company H, 14th Regiment (Laurens County's Blackshear Guards), Georgia Volunteer Infantry.

Being curious, I went to the NPS soldiers and sailors list, and searched for Mr. Yopp. Though the Captain is there, as number 1625 of 1625 names in the regiment, Bill yopp is not listed. There are any number of reasons for this, and I make no claim of a "conspiracy", but it does make one wonder. Stan
