Re: The purpose of discussion?

In my own experience, Evelyn, Ancestry.com genealogical data is infested with user generated errors that have no mechanism for update and correction other than the submitter's voluntary efforts.

My guess is the reliability of Ancestry.com-sourced data is no more than about 25% as far as serious genealogical work is concerned. I reached that decision after some pretty intensive Ancestry.com work about eight years ago and terminated my subscription with no regrets.

I now only look at Ancestry.com publicly available files to validate my own findings sourced from far more credible data archives. I also became irritated several years ago when it seemed that anything of apparent value led you to a Ancestry.com pay-for-data link.

My comments do not relate to Ancestry.com's more recent CW materials offerings since I have not tried them.

Whether Ancestry.com has done anything in the last eight years to enhance the quality of their genealogical data I do not know.
