Ancestry.com still has woefully inadequate records concerning veterans of the WBTS and/or units. The database they purchased was nothing like comprehensive; not all states are included last time I looked at it. What they do have is difficult to search through.

The major improvement on Ancestry in the past several years, imo, has been the recent availability of individual family trees. Unfortunately, some of them are "private" - meaning you can't get into the actual tree without the owner's invitation to view it. The ones classified as "public trees" are often a help, though. There are some with links to sources and they all have the ability to let you "leave a comment" as well as get in contact with the tree's owner/producer.

The major drawback, also imo, is the cost. Ancestry is expensive to use. There are many other sites relating to the WBTS with more useful and readily available info and I would never recommend Ancestry for that type of research.

That said, it's a great place fo find other researchers of your own tree. I've met several cousins (and been reunited with one long lost one!) through using the site. I guess those alone would cause me to say I've gotten "my money's worth" from the subscriptions.
