Re: Is "reparations" for slavery a Civil War topic

The present day discussion about reparation goes to the very heart of the American Civil War doesn't It? What are these reparation for? While Slavery was A cause of the War it was not the only cause, nor even the major cause in my opinion. But there is no excaping the fact that the mythology, the preception if you will, of that war has turned that issue into the primary issue of the War.

In my opinion the talk of apologies and reparation tranlates to a direct condeamnation of the southern people because of that preception surrounding that war. If you can convience me that reparation would not translate into such a condeamnation, I would be willing to say that it is not be a proper subject. But how do you divorce reparations from being an implied condeamnation of the Confederacy?

The very core of an apology is to place blame, or accept blame. I don't see the Unionist accepting blame for their part in establishing that institution win the United States. They never have. That blame has always solely been laid at the feet of the southern people.
