After reading the laws passed by the Confederate government several years ago I came to the conclusion that the number of Blacks serving the Confederate war effort had to have been in the 10s of thousands, a mixture of free and slave. The attention to detail in those laws for the comfort and welfare for those blacks employed in the war effort is remarkable considering what modern historians have taught the American people over the years.
