Ok, it's very possible they didn't get a pension. Mary Ann died in Virginia before her son Benjamin and wife Elizabeth moved to Georgia. I do know James is listed in the DAR Blue Book, his hospital stay is also documented in some record in the National Archives. An earlier researcher discovered that and somewhere I have the document number. Not that I'd ever need it.
I guess in reasoning it out, he wasn't indigent so that pretty much answers that question. From what I've gathered, James was well off enough to travel to England for business after the war.

It is also documented that Benjamin fought in the War of 1812. I did not realize until recently there was more than one land lottery for 1812 service. Maybe that's what the equivilant of a pension was, land. Pretty nice deal if one ignores the original owner of that land. From the dates in the lottery books, it seems the Georgia land went first and then they started handing out land in Alabama.
