My relatives in the Mexican War from that area would be a Sergeant William Palmer and Private Goldman Bryson in the 1st Regiment of Foot Volunteers Company K. They were mustered at Murphy (sometimes spelled Murphey, back then.) It is the county seat of the present day Cherokee County NC. I had Woody family who fought in the Revolutionary War but don't know what they were doing in the War of 1812, probably romancing Cherokees and fighting Creeks but I'm not positive.
