Re: Foreign Imports vs Home Manufactures

Mr. Pitts,

It is true what you say, but I use the plow to explain what was going on. Why, most people think of Plantation Owners as being the common experience of the South. Which isn't the fact. Those big Plantation Houses are few and in many cases far between. In fact 56% of all slave owners had 6 or fewer slaves. And the more slaves one had the fewer people there are. It comes down to the big plantations of 500 slaves was left to about 3-5 people per state on the average. The major number of slave owners had one slave. One slave who more then likely slept in the same house, ate at the same table, and enjoyed the fruits of the labor with the master. If the master did well, the slave got better stuff. Problem for the slave is that he is still a slave. By using the plow you understand we are talking more about the common man not the big plantation owner who wouldn't have a problem with paying some of the higher price. The dinning room set of table and 6 chairs limits the conversation. And when your trying to make a point you want to cover more people then just those who are rich. Just like the other day when they said there are 350 some odd Billionaires in the world. There are 50 some odd in the States. Compared to our population which is around 6.5 million then you realize how few are the rich. You can get a great deal more money by taxing the small guy a small amount then the rich guy a great deal. But then the Demos. seem to think just different from that. And the problem with social programs is that "sooner or later you run out of other peoples money." M Thacher.
