Thanks. I appreciate the input. Wheeler's "raid" into Tennessee in 1864 is just another example of the tragic mismanagement of cavalry that plagued the Army of Tennessee. His raid into the Sequatchie Valley in October 1863 is just another example. No Operational task or purpose that resulted a waste of resources (i.e. men, equipment, and horses) and not significant return on damage to the enemy.

I lived in Niota (Mouse Creek Station during the WBTS) for seven years and have done extensive research on the action in the entire area and wrote a Military Staff Ride on the affair at Philadelphia, Tennessee in October 1863. One day I will publish the material about the Cavalry actions from September 1863 until December 1863 from Cleveland to Knoxville.

One correction for your post. The Eastern Tennessee and Virginia line went from Knoxville to Virginia. The Eastern Tennessee and Georgia line went from Knoxville to Chatanooga.
