I don't think Caleb had any relatives in this unit. From his letters, I gather that he or his wife may have had a brother or something that may have been stationed in Alexandria (LA) but can't be sure.

He and his wife met and married in Paris, TX which is very near where the unit was stationed at the time of his death on January 13, 1864. His homestead was near Crawford (TX), pretty much where the G. W. Bush ranch is located now. We're in Austin, not far from there. I even had a bit of a run-in with the Secret Service a few months ago when I was up there, looking for cemeteries.

This past Saturday, I copied 10 or so tintypes (unidentifed, of course) that were in the belongings of another of Caleb's descendants. Each day, things seem to get a bit clearer, but I've still got a long way to go before I'll really understand or be satisfied with what I've been able to learn.
