Re: 24th Texas Cavalry burials, Camp Butler, Illin

Karen,

There are 17 men of the 24th Texas Dismounted Cavalry ... and 16 men of the 25th Texas Dismounted Cavalry that are buried in the National Cemetary of Jefferson Barracks at St. Louis, Missouri.

These are the men of those regiments also captured at Arkansas Post, but were too ill to make it to Camp Butler. They were left at the St. Louis Hospitals, later dying there.

In my travels, I made a pilgrimage twice to that cemetery to photograph the headstones of the men of the 10th Texas Infantry, but felt compelled to photograph the other "Ark. Post" men. So along with the ten men of the 10th Texas Infantry, and the above-mentioned 24th/25th men, I also photographed men of the 15th/17th/18th Tex Cavs, 6th Tex Inf and a couple of the 7th Tex Inf (not "Ark Post" prisoners, but later part of the AoT Texas Brigade).
