Re: 24th Texas Cavalry burials, Camp Butler, Illin

Russell,

Thanks again for the offer, I may take you up on that one day when you may be at Little Rock any way.

As per your question about the Hickory Street Hospital, that is one I am not familiar with; the 10th Texas captives that were hospitalized, were at either Gratiot Street (same as Karen's ancestor) or a couple of others ... but, St. Louis hospitals were there mainly for Federal patients, so the influx of the Ark Post prisoners really put a burden on their existing hospital wards. In regard to your comment about names of battles amongst the two forces ... the North generally named both engagements and their armies after tributaries of water (i.e. battle of Bull Run & Army of the Potomac) ... the South on the other hand, generally named theirs after land (i.e. battle of Mannassas & Army of Northern Virginia). Sorry for the Eastern Theatre reference, it is the first one that came to mind. Since C.B. was a prisoner, I can only assume that the hospital records you have on him are from a U.S. source, and since said hospital was in U.S. occupied territory, there wouldn't be a need for conflict of name.

I would love to read C.B.'s letters, as I am certain other forum members would as well. You needn't know much about computers to post them to this forum ... however, they are of such import, that they warrant their own thread ... for example, "Letters of C.B. Horton, 25th T.D.C." chronologically making an individual post for each letter.

Those letters would be a great contribution to this forum!!!

Scott
