Carolyn,

I have another soldier for you. His unit was the only one that seems to match with your obituary battle list.

W.J. Flemming (First_Last)
Regiment Name 2 Texas Infantry
Side Confederate
Company C
Soldier's Rank_In Private
Soldier's Rank_Out Private
Alternate Name W.J./Fleming
Notes
Film Number M227 roll 12

Here is the list of battles for the 2ND Texas Infantry

Shiloh - April 6-7,1862
Corinth Campaign - April-June 1862
Farmington - May 9, 1862
Iuka - Sept. 19, 1862 *
Corinth - Oct. 3-4, 1862 *
Hatchie Bridge - Oct. 5, 1862
Chickasaw Bayou - Dec. 27-29, 1862
Fort Pemberton - March 11-April 5, 1863
Vicksburg Campaign - May-July 1863
Champion's Hill - May 16, 1863
Big Black River Bridge - May 17, 1863 *
Vicksburg Siege May-July 1863
Red River Campaign - March-May 1864 * (Yellow Bayou)
Mansfield - April 8, 1864
Pleasant Hill April 9, 1864 *

Also, in 1864 time frame the 2nd Texas was in Waul's Brigade. (Waller's may be wrong ??)

The battles of the 34th Texas (Captain William H. Flemming) don't match up with the obituary. Also, William B. Fleming, compamy B, 8th Texas Cavalry was discharged due to wounds March 1863 in TN. and out of the war so he could not have been at Big Black Bridge etc.

I hope this helps you in some way,
Gary D. Bray
