Jerry, Thanks for your input. Our family has been trying to find a burial site or information on the land James Monroe bought in Mexico for decades. Our understanding was that one of the people involved in the fight was his foreman. We received his stars back, but one missing item was a gold watch that had been given to him by his father (my g-g-grandfather) when he left for college in Baltimore in the 1850s. There was some belief that he may have been stabbed in a robbery attempt. I have gotten no help from the US embassy in Mexico City so grab at any straw that may give me a lead.
