Re: "Battle of Salisbury Bridge"

Dear Marcy,

After doing a "little" research on engagements of the late Red River Campaign, I could not find any action information about "The Battle of Salisbury Bridge" on April 16, 1864; however, I did find three other engagements about this time. Apparently, there were two engagements on the 16th of April. One was a skirmish at Grand Ecore, the point to which Banks had retreated by this time and the other was a skirmish at Grand Carillou or Caillou Bayou. The engagement that sounded most, from the limited information I could find, like the engagement you reference was called "Skirmish at Saline Bayou", but the date for this skirmish was given as April 14th. Are you familiar with these other engagements or names? I was thinking it might be helpful if you knew an alternate name for this skirmish as some material might be available on the battle you're looking for, but with a different name.

I would also suggest that you consider posting this query on the Louisiana in the CW Message Board at http://history-sites.com/cgi-bin/boards/lacwmb/ where we have a number of Red River experts who frequent the board.

With best regards,

Jim Martin
