Re: "Battle of Salisbury Bridge"

Could this be the "Shreveport Bee" and "Galveston Tri-Weekly News"? Anyone's help would be appreciated as you guys are more familiar with the Texas sources than I am. The Galveston paper seems to have some letters from Harrison about the progress of the RR Campaign.

BTW, I do believe that the skirmish was not called the "Battle of Salisbury Bridge" but "Bayou Saline" as you have indicated. The bridge itself was not built until after 1897 so . . . The oral tradition must be pointing toward where the site was (the skirmish happened about where the Salisbury Bridge is now) and this distinction was lost over time. I am not sure whether this skirmish is the same as the skirmish of Bayou Saline, however. Apparently the good citizens of Winn Par. wrote a letter to Grant in Sept 1863 indicating that they would like to leave the confederacy due to jayhawkers (hence the old name "The Free State of Winn") and Richard Taylor sent over 5 companies of 12th Tex Cav and 1 from 19th Texas Cav about Oct. 28, 1863.

Also, I found the citation in OR that shows 2nd NY Veterans Cav "Empire Light" in this skirmish but still don't know who was on our side. Does anyone know what "Empire Light" means?
