Re: 2nd Texas Infantry Co F- Battle of Corinth

Jackson S. McMahan, age 20, born in Texas, enlisted as a 1st Lieutenant in Company F, 2nd Texas Infantry September 5, 1861 at Galveston, promoted to Captain and transferred to Company G August 24, 1862, promoted to Captain October 5/7, 1862, listed on a roll of killed, and wounded and missing, of the 2nd Regiment, Texas Infantry, at the battle of Corinith, Miss. Oct. 3 to 5, 1862 as Commanding Company G, on sick leave as of October 30, 1862, died at Jackson December 7, 1862

It is somewhat confusing the date of his promotion to Captain. I read the citation as to the Cornith casualty list, as that he commanded Company G and was not a casualty. He later is reported as on sick leave Oct. 30, place not stated, and died 5 weeks later.

The company was at Waterford, Miss., near Holly Springs on October 30, 1862, they arrived at Grenada, MS December 6, remaining through the 28th, arriving at Vicksburg December 29.
