Re: 2nd Texas Infantry Co F- Battle of Corinth

This camp is the third oldest post in Texas after Ft Bliss and Ft Sam Houston and was named for Brigadier General Woodford H. Mabry the Adjutant General of Texas from January 23, 1891 to May 4, 1898.
Hinche P. Mabry, Marion County was Commander of Co. G, 3rd Texas Cavalry Regiment when the regiment was Mustered. He was Commander of the 3rd Texas when captured at Iuka, MS on Sep 17, 1862. After a year in prison he signed an altered parole which stated he was from the Confederate States. Somewhat a hero for his stance, he was in line for command of the Whitfield Texas Cavalry Brigade and acted in command during Whitfield's sickness. Sul Ross was also eldgable for this command, which created some problem. Because of the service in Tennessee with General Forrest, Mabry was transfered to Forrest to command a brigade in the Tennessee Army.He had an outstanding career with Forrest but his promotion to Brigader General was not acted on before the end of the war. Sul Ross was recommended for promotion for his actions at Corinth and Hatchie Bridge, but was not promoted until Dec. 1863 when he assumed command of the brigade as Whitfield was transferred to the Army of Tennessee and Mississsippi. Had to Google Camp Mabry.
