The notation before the date 4 Oct. 62 is very faint, I originally though it was an 'R' signifying Resigned. However, on 2nd look, it could very well be a
'K', i. e. , Killed.

This is confirmed in his CSR file which states "killed on 4th Oct/62" at Cornith.

John Muller, age 40, born in Germany, entered Confederate service from Texas September 5, 1861, Clerk, Q. M. Department in Mexican War.
