Re: 2nd Texas Infantry Co F- Battle of Corinth

Hi,
Thanks very much for the information. Can you tell me the source for the information at the end of your message?
I am trying to read J.E. Chance's "The Second Texas Infantry". He describes many of the same events you do following Davis Bridge and the retreat deeper into Mississippi. He also describes encounters with Federal Calvary. On page 86, he describes a series of promotions, apparently approved by the Confederate Congress, news of which comes while the 2nd is at Grenada. that includes McMahan, and here the statement is that he was promoted to Captain of Company F. However, there are no citations as to sources.
Do you know if it was common to have battlefield promotions that were later confirmed by Congress?
Lastly, do you know if there were Confederate hospitals at Jackson during the period immediately following Cornith? If there are names and any potential records, I would surely like to find them.
I appreciate your help.
