Off topic of this thread but perhaps related... I'm looking for info on a Charles B. Johnson who was a civilian commissary agent for the Dept of the Indian Territory. Albert Pike mentions him as bringing money back from Richmond which was intercepted by Hindman in Arkansas. Steele refers to him regarding bringing beef and corn (as I recall) from Texas for Speight's Brigade in January 1863. A Mr. Grimes was apparently a partner.
By the way, the newspapers online are a wonderful resource, in particular the Clarksville Standard.
