Thanks for your kind comment on my newspaper files--I hope they make a good resource for everyone working on the Southern homefront, but the Trans-Miss homefront in particular since it is so often overlooked.

I think there are two different Charles B. Johnsons and two C. B. Johnsons, but since they are from different years, and people moved around during the war, I include all. I was selective under Charles Johnson and C. Johnson, looking for Arkansas vouchers.

In Footnote.com, in the Confederate Citizens section (the original microfilm is usually called the Citizens and Business File), under Charles B. Johnson I found:

1) a card for Charles B. Johnson, voucher no. 1437x, amount $2800.00, dated Van Buren, Arkansas, October 22, 1861, wagons and oxen for use 1st Div. Ark. A., filed at Executive Office, Little Rock, Ark.

2) a card for Charles B. Johnson. See Slave Roll No. 2809.

3) a voucher dated May 27th 1862, for one wagon 200.00, one sett harness for two animals 40.00, two large bay mules at $230, $460. I certify, that the above account is correct and just, and that the articles have been accounted for on my Property Return for the Quarter ending on the 30th day of June 1862, Wm. Quesenbury, Quartermaster. Received at Richmond, Va., the 24 day of July, 1862, of J. T. B. Dorsey Capt. A. Quartermaster, C.S. Army, the sum of seven hundred codllars and --- cents, in full of the above account. Charles B. Johnson.

4) a voucher dated July 4, 1861, for 155 mules at $161.00, total $24,955.00. The above account has been adjudicated, is correct and just, and will be paid as soon as funds for that purpose are received. Signed Geo. W. Clarke, Major & A.Q.M., C.S.A. I certify that the above account is correct and just, and that the articles have been accounted for on my property return for the quarter ending on 30th of September 1861. Geo. W. Clarke, Maj., Quartermaster. Received at Fort Smith, Arks the 5th of August 1861 of Major George W. Clarke, A. Quartermaster C. S. Army, the sum of Twenty Four Thousand Nine Hundred & Fifty Five dollars and ----- cents, in full of the above account. Charles B. Johnson. [Signed in Duplicate]

5) a voucher dated July 5, 1861 for 62 horses at $175.00, total $10,850.00. The above account has been adjudicated, is correct and just, and will be paid soon as funds for that purpose are received. Geo. W. Clarke, Major & A.Q.M. C.S.A. I certify that the above account is correct and just, and that the articles have been accounted for on my property return for the quarter ending on 30th of September 1861. Geo. W. Clarke, Maj. Received at Fort Smith, Arks the 7th of September 1861 of Major Geo. W. Clarke, A. Quartermaster C. S. Army, the sum of Ten Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty dollars and ----- cents, in full of the above account. Charles B. Johnson. [Signed in Duplicate].

Under C. B. Johnson I found:

1) a voucher dated October 20, 1861, for services and expenses incurred in collection of War Warrant No. 389 amounting to Ninety Thousand Dollars, drawn on A. J. Guirot A. Tr. at New Orleans La.--$373.50. I certify, That the above Amount is correct and just, and that the Services were rendered as stated, and that they were necessary for the Public Service. Geo. W. Clarke, Major A. Quartermaster. Received at Fort Smith the 2d of November, 1861, of Major G. W. Clarke, A. Quartermaster C. S. Army, the sum of Three Hundred and Seventy-Three dollars and Fifty cents, in full of the above account. C. B. Johnson.

Personally appeared before me an acting and duly Commissioned Justice of the peace in and for said County and State C B Johnson who being duly sworn states that the account for service & expenses amounting to 373 500/100 Dollars, hand [??--fold in page] me by Major Geo W Clarke A.Q.M. 3) a voucher dated August 28, 1861, for 42 ox wagons complete at 140.00, total 5880.00; 246 oxen at 35.00, total 8610.00, 266 mules [I think--hole in page] 170.00, total 45,220.00, [something else--hole in page] at 180.00, 540.00, total $60,250.00. I certify that the above account is correct and just, and that the articles have been accounted for on my property return for the quarter ending on 30th of September 1861, Geo. W. Clarke, Major, A. Quartermaster. Received at Fort Smith, Arks the 7th of September 1861 of Major George W. Clarke, A. Quartermaster C.S. Army, the sum of Sixty Thousand Two Hundred and Fifty dollars and ----- cents, in full of the above account. C. B. Johnson.

4) a voucher dated August 30th 1861 for 1 horse, 200.00, 1 mule 185.00, total $385.00. I certify the above account is correct and just, and that the articles have been accounted for on my property return for the quarter ending on 30th of September 1861, Geo. W. Clarke, Major A. Quartermaster. Received at Fort Smith, Arks. the 7th of September 1861 of Major George W. Clarke, A. Quartermaster C. S. Army, the sum of Three Hundred & Eighty Five dollars and ---- cents, in full of the above account. C. B. Johnson.

5) A voucher dated Oct. 1st 1862 for 1 two mule wagon, $200.00. I certify, that the above Account is correct and just, and that the Articles have been accounted for on my Property Return for the quarter ending the 31st day of December 1862. F. A. Rector, Maj. & A. Quartermaster. Received at Camp Elkhorn, the 1st of October, 1862, of F. A. Rector Maj & A. Quartermaster, C. S. A., Two hundred and ---- dollars and ---- Cents, in full of the above account. C. B. Johnson.

6) a voucher dated June 7 [no year], for 2 mules, $400.00. [no place]. I certify, on honor, that the above account is correct and just; that I purchased the articles above enumerated of the said C. B. Johnson, at the prices therein charged, amounting to four hundred Dollars and ---- Cents, and that I have not paid the account, John B. Ogden, Capt. & A.A. Quartermaster.

7) a voucher dated April 1, 1863, for 13 Log chains weighing 325 pounds at 50c per pound, 162.50. I certify that the above account is correct and just, and that the articles will be accounted for on my property return for the 2 quarter ending on the 30 of June 1863. W. A. Welch, A. Quartermaster. Received at Fort Washita the first of April 1863 of Capt. W. A. Welch A.Q.M. C.S. Army, one hundred & sixty two dollars and fifty cents, in full of the above account. C. B. Johnson.

8) a voucher dated June 7, 1862, for 2 mules at $200 each, 400.00. I certify, that the above account is correct and just, and that the articles have been accounted for on my Property Return for the quarter ending on the 30 day of June 1862, and that the a/c has not been paid for want of funds. 9) a voucher dated Gadsden, Ala., Oct. 8th, 1863, to C. B. Johnson, for two hundred and nineteen pounds fresh beef weight, at 25c per pound, 54.75. I certify that the above account is correct & just and that the articles will be accounted for on my Returns for the month of October 1863, and that the purchase was necessary for the Public Service. Jno. F. Davis, Capt. & A.C.S. Received at Gadsden Ala. on the 8th day of October 1863 of Capt. Jno. F. Davis, ACS, CS Army for the sum of fifty-four dollars and 75/100 cents in full of the above account. C. B. Johnson.

10) a voucher dated August 31st 1863, for one (1) grass Beef weighing (1200) twelve hundred pounds gross @ 12 1/2c per pound, 150.00. I certify that the above is correct. R. B. Kyle, agent. I certify that the above account is correct and just, and that the articles have been accounted for on my Return, for the Third quarter, ending on the 30th of September 1863. O. C. I certify, on honor, that the above account is correct and just; that the services were rendered as stated, and that they were necessary for the public service. F. O. Snow, Capt. & Ast. Quartermaster, C. S. Army. Received at Little Rock, Ark the 28 day of February 1863, of Capt. F. A. Snow ast Quartermaster, C. S.
