I would suggest this may have been the Thomas Morton Scott who came to Texas from Kentucky in 1852 and lived near Melissa,Collin County.

There is a page of information on this man and his family in a,"History of Collin Co.,Texas" by Stambaugh.

In addition to the info about serving on General Maxey's staff and later in the war with General Maxey in the District of Indian Territory there is a further sentence.In 1865,he assisted in making treaties with Indian tribes who had been making raids in Texas.
