Re: 1st Texas Sharpshooters
In Response To: 1st Texas Sharpshooters ()

Steve: I had 2 relatives, James parker and Spencer Willis who served in Burnet's 1st. Texas Sharpshooters.

My question: If they were not part of the Confedercy who paid for there stay at the Confederate Home in Ardmore, OK>

Spencer Willis died somewhere between the town of Buchanon in Johnson Co and Hunt Co. I have not been able to locate anything except his 1860 census..

James Parker now was taken from Chichasha, OK to Ardmore in 1911 and died in the Confederate Home in Ardmore in 1915...I have found his grave stone which reads:
GUARD FOR ALBERT SIDNEY JOHNSTON..Now I know who JOHNSTON was,but I can not find who paid for his stay at the Confederate Home anywhere..Of course the home destroyed all of its records...I have been to the OK. Lib. with not much help...

Can you offer any suggestions to help me.

Thanks everyone for your help
