James A. Underwood was a Private and was captured at the Battle of Winchester, but have no date. Either the first campaign with Stonewall Jackson, or the second with Jubal Early. I was told he was sent to Point Lookout POW Camp in Scotland, Maryland. He returned to West Virginia, and is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Princeton, West Virginia.
James' brother, Jesse Underwood, was a Private captured outside of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia on the Maryland side of the river, and was eventually sent to Elmira, New York POW Camp, where he died of smallpox in 1864/65. He is buried there.
If anyone has any information of these two, I would be honored to receive it.
Thank you!
