The obituary you found in the Abingdon Virginian is the only record I have been able to find of Littleberry's service. A claim made by Littleberry's father/family for pay due him may be buried in the National Archives logs and records of the CS War Dept 2nd Auditor. Normally, however, the clerks who assembled the Compiled Service Records checked those auditor's records. Having someone check those may be a long shot, but it's the only place I can think of to look. The claim for pay due originated at the County Court level and there may be records of that court action in those local records. I can tell you that the wartime records of the 50th VA are among the most lacking that I have seen. Who is it that is failing to recognize the obituary for purposes of issuing the headstone? The Department of Veterans Affairs?
