Tom
Here's another, from Jehu Bernard, K/50th Va, which came from Patrick County. It was written to "Dear Folks" on 13 January 1863 from Camp near Franklin Depot, Va., in Southamton County, near the Blackwater River.

"Jim I went to Jerusalem yesterday and it was such a bad looking place that I concluded it was the not the Jerusalem that the scriptures tells about and on them terms I left and I think I will not go back there anymore[.]"

Jerusalem is modern-day Courtland in Southampton Co., Va. The name Jerusalem dated from 1750, but was changed to Courtland in 1788. Raus McDill Hanson, Virginia Place Names: Derivations, Historical Uses. McClure Printing Company, Inc., Verona, Va., 1969
