Under the unit's previous names, it was involved in many actions and engagements.

Technically, the 24th was involved in Wilson's Raid. However, the engagement was with Gen. Croxton's Brigade in Croxton's Raid, which I can best describe as a sub-expedition of Wilson's. This engagement was near the Sipsey River in what was then Pickens County, and is today Greene County, and on into Tuscaloosa County. None of Wirt Adams' units were at Selma.

For the most comprehensive, and generally very accurate, accounts of Miss. units, Dunbar Roland's book the "Military History of Mississippi" is the authority.
