Re: The Yankee Invasion of West Alabama

George,

While the changing county lines in the area where the main battle took place has created a lot of confusion, King's Store community is not in that area. King's Store is well inside of Pickens County, in "undisputed" territory. Its northwest of the Sipsey River. Only land on the south and southeast has been subject to moving boundaries. Any map that Dr. Hoole could have looked at would have clearly showed it in Pickens. He placed it in Greene County, several miles away from its true location. As I recall, Dr. Hoole doesn't even place any of the action in Greene County [the battle was in Pickens Co. at the time of the battle], which is where 90-95% of the action took place. Instead he attributes all action to Romulus.

Fort Gaines is not in Gainesville, it is on Dauphin Island in Mobile Bay.
