I've pretty much come to the conclusion that the whole subject of Unionist sentiment in Arkansas needs to be revisited. Traditionally, scholars have generally used the numbers of men serving in Arkansas Union regiments as a sort of benchmark to gauge Unionist sentiment -- even though a goodly number of the men were not from Arkansas. But I keep running across numbers of Arkansas men serving in Union regiments organized in other States -- notably Missouri and Kansas (I also have reason to believe that I'll find Arkansas men in certain Iowa and Illinois regiments). And the numbers keep growing.

By the way, today I received the thesis you sent. Brian, you were far too kind in your acknowledgement of what little help I was able to provide; but I thank you anyway. I've started reading it, and I can already tell that it really deserves to be published. It seems just a little more than coincidental that I had just finished updating the 2nd Arkansas Cavalry (USV) soldier records in my database, when your thesis arrived. The names and records of the soldiers are thus fresh in my mind, so it's like old home week.
