My project started out with just one regiment, and it just grew from there to include all Arkansas Confederate regiments, then all Arkansas Union regiments, then Arkansans serving in regiments from other states. Because of the large number of Arkansans who served in Missouri, Louisiana and Texas regiments, I also have soldier databases for those states. My Louisiana database is fairly comprehensive, but the ones for Missouri and Texas are still taking baby steps. I'd like to set up one for the Indian Territory, but I simply don't have the time for that right now. Maybe someday.

To me, the real heroes in Arkansas Civil War research are those guys who are breaking new ground, like Doyle Taylor, Bill Shea, Bob Meeks, and so many other contributors to this board. And, of course, overriding all is Jim Martin who has provided the perfect forum for us Civil War nuts to share our work with the world. I'm a little disappointed that, as far as I know, none of the Civil War heritage and study groups, or State history commissions, have officially recognized Jim's important contribution. If anyone deserves to have a bouquet tossed at him, it's Jim Martin.
