One more thing--I am not surprised that you keep turning up so many Arkansans in Federal regiments from other states. While many of the Arkansans likely enlisted while the various regiments operated throughout the state, I bet a significant number of the them also enlisted in the regiment's state of origin. One thing that a lot of people don't realize is that there was a huge displacement of the civilian population. Hundreds of Arkansans fled north when the war started and hundreds (if not thousands) more continued to flee north as the war progressed. For instance, it would not surprise me one bit to find some Arkansans actually enlisting in Kansas. Of course, we already know about many of the Arkansans who enlisted in Missouri.

I'm pretty sure that I've come across Arkansans in some of the Iowa regiments. I did a brief article on the 29th Iowa last year, and I seem to remember stumbling upon a few Arkansans in the regiment. There is a fabulous set of CDs called "Iowa History: Treasures from the Archives" that has lots and lots of good stuff on the Civil War in Arkansas. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in the different battles, campaigns, etc. that took place in state. It is obviously also a great resource for researching individual Iowa soldiers.
