There is a thick volume, written sometime after WW1, entitled Howell County Honor Roll, listing known Howell County veterans through WW1. On page 165, CIVIL WAR VETERANS, the first confederate soldier listed is Ed Adams. There are no units listed but this might be a start. I didn't find him in the 4th infantry or other local CSA units I have rosters for.
