Thank you for that excellent sleuth work that corroborates the early story presented that a William J. Odneal was killed by Union troops at Tipton on 22 December 1862--two and one half years before local Confederates killed two Good men at home 27 May 1865. It appears the Good killers waited until their service to the Confederacy was finished before carrying out their revenge for a kinsman or friend, and just before civil law began again in that region as the guerrilla war drew to an end.

That does seem to make sense of it all. It's just a shame we don't know how to get in touch with that Good ancestor again to tell him what we found.
