Its hard for us to admit but bottom line is Grant won the war.He was only a fair strategist but his greatest attributes his will and determination to not give up and to put the right people in the right places(Sherman) to get it over with. Perhaps the turning point was the evening of May 7,1864.His troops took a pounding at the Wilderness and all other federal armies to that time pulled back and regrouped.Grant went south to Spotsylvania for some more.Unfortunately for the South,the man and his hour had arrived.
