Re: Historian Brooks Simpson issues call to the SC

One of the wisest things (in my opinion) different SCV chapters have been doing is buying land next to the interstates and flying the flag. I've talked to many people about that over the last few years and they all agree it's a well thought out plan. Everyone wants to salute and it brings big smiles to many faces. Can't think of much that has impacted so many with the consistant message, we do not go away in silence. We have to leave the story so it won't be lost. We all know we cannot depend on any educational system to even teach the amount of information many of us had when we were in school. There are still a few teachers willing to veer from the 'scriped' textbook lesson and at least present more than the usual, "the South was just a bunch of ignorant people trying to hold on to a system that was inhumane. " These are our front lines now and I'm thankful they are there.
I read in the local paper a week ago that there would be a Civil War Roundtable here in town on April 9 and that Tony Horowitz (Confederates in the Attic). The one thing I cannot find is the info on where, the time and if it's open to the public. I've checked with any local historical society and club that may know. They say they know nothing about it. One subject that was said to be discussed is Sumter and that's the one I believe many of us here would love to sit in on.
