I have finally found someone knowledgeable about the 3rd Mounted Inf reg of Kentucky and the backgound of my family. They were the brothers and cousins of my grandfather, James Samuel Bushart ( my namesake, born in Hickman, Kentucky ). My reports are on file at the Kentucky Historical Society and the Fulton and Hickman, Kentucky Libraries and they name my fathers family specufically as you did. They all served gallantly. They all were at major battles. There were twenty one confederate and six Union. Four brothers came from Germany to Philadelphia, one went south and the others went north. Their grandson were in the Civil War and opposed each other not even knowing it. Two were KIA on the confederate side and three on the Union were also KIA. One Unioin is on the Honor Roll at Stones River National Battlefield. Two of the Busharts from Kentucky, tennessee, were KIA at Shiloh ( one was killed on a train wreck in Rienzi, Mississippi. All of the Busharts from Kentucky were with the Forrest Cavalry Corps. Please contact me an we can discuss this some more. I am sorry I never responded earlier, I just found your E Mail.
