Gregg Miller :

Gregg, I appreciate the thoroughness you have in your E Mail on the Busharts, Civil War. You have descriptions that I have found hard to get and I thank you. Basically what I have written about and stored in the Hickman Kentucky Library is as follows (still looking for more ):

Enlistements were at Jackson tennessee, 12 tennessee Infantry, 20th Cavalry of Tennessee, 5th Tennessee Infantry and 10th Cavalry of tennessee. They were in Company E, 12th,and were transferred to Company L of the 3rd Mounted Infantry Regiment of Kentucky and later transferred to the command of General Nathan B. Forrest as the " Kentucky Brigade " under Lt. Gen. Buford. Their battle movements were as follows :

Nov 17, 1861, battle of Belmont, Mar 1, 1862, evacuated Columbus, Kentucky,( Co E all Kentucky born ), marched to Tupelo, Mississippi and then to Corinth, Mississippi and then to Shiloh, Tennessee ( Pvt. Wm C. Bushart KIA April 6, 1862 and is buried at Shiloh , his brother was KIA later at Rienzi, Mississippi in a train wreck, both were in the 5th Tenn Inf). They endured the bombing at Vicksburg from May to July 1862; battle of Baton Rouge LA, Aug 5 1862; attack on Corinth, October 3 and 4, 1862; Coffeeeville, decembeer 5,1862; 2nd Vicksburg campaign they moved with Lorings Division at Raymond, Champion Hill and the Siege of Jackson, Mississppi, April-July 1863; Stationed at Canton, Mississippi and then assigned the Meridian Campaign; on March 10, 1864 they were transferred to the Forrest Cavalry Corps. Battles were Paducah, Kentucky, Fort Pillow, Kentucky, Brice Crossroads, Johnsonville, Franklin-Nashville and Wilsons Raid.

Thanks for the E Mail. If I can gather anything else I would be very grateful. In addition to the above, my survey found that they had cousins in the Union, three were KIA at Vicksburg, Wilderness and Stone River.

I hope to hear from you ( I am proud of their records)

James Samuel Bushart (Jim)
