The experiences of the Busharts in the Civil War were many. The best detailed notation of their exploits during the war are within the publication " The Campaigns of Nathan Bedford Forrest and his Cavalry ". Chapter Number 15 to the end of the book illustrates the battles and travels following their transfer to the Forrest Cavalry command, March 10, 1864.Prior to this transfer they were in major battles from Belmont, Shiloh, Vicksburg and Meridian Campaign. During Vicksburg they were commanded by General Buford and they remained under the command of Buford serving the Forrest Cavalry command. The Busharts you named in your posting were my grandfathers brothers and cousins, 3rd Mounted Infantry regiment of Kentucky. This posting was placed with my survey of Civil war combat of Busharts during the Civil War in the Kentucky Historical Society along with an excellent review made by Lim Lewis, MTCWRT serving to post their travels in the MTCWRT Newsletter.

The above was placed within my survey with the primary introduction that four Bushart brothers immigrated from Germany to Philadelphia. They seperated and one of the brothers went South, the other three went North. Their great, great grandsons were subject to the general politics and philosophies of the Civil War and ironically opposed each other militarily, Union and Confederate. Two were KIA from the South and three were KIA from the North. All had very good military records and I am proud of the survey.

Thank you again for your posting of Busharts in the history of the Civil War Tennessee Message Boards. I have tried to place the survey to Kentucky and Tennessee historians since I noted how extensive their service in history was. I hope to read more.
