Alan,

Please keep in mind that at the beginning of the war Forrest armed his men with Maynard carbines and revolvers bought through arms dealers in Louisville, KY.

For the rest of the war he used his primary source of supply for the arms - the US Army.

Surely some men did not have them but I have seen far too many accounts of his men in battle that say that many, if not most, did.
