Your post calls attention to Forrest's abilities as an organizational director and administrator. These are finer points in military studies which most writers seem not to notice or appreciate.

Capt. Hammond's inspection of Oct. 17, 1864, came from the ADAH. Hammond had been on duty with Daniel's North Carolina Brigade, ANVa, and used the standard inspection booklet. It's not in electronic format, but I'll be happy to copy and mail if you will contact me with address info off-line.
