Re: Where was Camp Lowry, Tennessee?

Thank you for the time you have spent on my request! Thank you also for the information regarding Howard. My ancestor (Edward Hudson) was in Knoxville on 30 April 1862 "with a detachment of the 26th that escaped capture at Ft. Donelson". He had originally enlisted with the 26th Tennessee Infantry and was seriously wounded at Fort Donelson. He managed to escape to Clarksville, Nashville, Chattanooga, then home to Meigs County. His records state he could no longer march after he was wounded so he was "transferred to cavalry service by Gen. E.K.Smith while his regiment was in prison." Then 30 April he was at Knoxville and 5 May he was mustered into the 3rd Conf. Cavalry. I found other members of the 26th that also joined the 3rd Conf. on the same day and place - I assume they had escaped capture at Ft. Donelson also. I have read that still other members of the 26th Tenn. Inf. that were not at Ft. Donelson were transferred to the 63rd Tenn. Inf., Co. "B" that was organized May 12 at Knoxville. It would seem that Knoxville, or some place close to it would be the most logical place to look for Camp Lowry.

Thank you again for your help,
Teresa
